The winter season 2017-2018 in Val di Fassa opens with the Snowboarding World Cup which takes place on 14th December and is disputed on the sunny slope Pra dei Tori at the Carezza Pass. The place, far only 9 km from Vigo di Fassa, is in the list of the Italian locations chosen by the international Ski Federation to host the competitions of the Snowboarding World Cup. On Thursday 14th December the best professional snowboarders defy one another in two competitions: women’s and men’s giant parallel slalom. Among champions, Roland Fischnaller, Aaron March and Christoph Mick from Alto Adige and Mirko Felicetti from Moena, are listed as possible winners. The programme (which might be subject to changes) includes lots of "green" entertainment, such as concerts, shows and fireworks display. There is also an area devoted to the sponsors of the event.
This is another important success for the Val di Fassa-Carezza ski area which has been chosen as FIS ski training centre for the national male and female teams since 2006. On Monday 18th December, the valley is once again under the spotlight on occasion of the night slalom race (valid for the Alpine Skiing European Cup) which takes place on the dreaded Alloch piste in Pozza di Fassa. Moreover, on Wednesday 20th and on Thursday 21st December, it will be ladies’ turn: 2 downhill competitions of the Women Alpine Skiing European Cup will take place for the first time on the slope La Volata on San Pellegrino Pass, the slope that – together with the Alloch – has been chosen to host the Junior Ski World Championship in February 2019.
