Pedestrian and cycle path in the Val di Fassa, Trentino

Green cycle holidays in the Val di Fassa

It is the most popular itinerary among cyclists: the cycle path of the Dolomites crosses the valleys of Fassa and Fiemme, along the river Avisio, with a total length of 48 km and a difference in altitude of 650 m. From Alba di Canazei southwards, the landscape keeps on changing, going past luxuriant larch and spur woods up to Pozza, where the valley opens and breath-taking views delight the sight. The descent to Soraga should be started with low speed, on the one hand because there are lots of pedestrians, on the other hand because in this way one can admire the extraordinary archi- tecture of the Dolomites and their steeples which turn coral red at sunset. Past Moena and the Sassolungo, Catinaccio and Monzoni, the path continues towards Predazzo and Molina (Fiemme), where it finishes. Once at destination, it is possible to return to the point of departure by bus (by local public transport or by Bike Express Fassa Fiemme bus service).

Cycling route of the Dolomites of Fiemme and Fassa

Close the Canazei sports field and playground you take the forest dirt road "Cercenà". Pedal along the easy, shady trail till you reach the Soreghès plain and the Col Rodella cableway station in Campitello di Fassa. Continue alongside the Avisio stream. Flat tracts alternate with short uphill ones until you reach, in the inhabited part of Mazzin, a hump with benches and wooden children’s playground equipment. The descent to Pera di Fassa starts here. There are then more easy up and downhill tracts to Fraine. With the wooden bridge on your right and the votive chapel on your left, continue along the dirt road passing pleasant sloping fields. On entering the town of Pozza di Fassa take the Strada di Bagnes (from Piaz de Comun - Tourist Office in the direction of the tennis courts - Dò Vea). You descend towards Moena along the asphalted road. The track once again runs alongside the Avisio stream, among fields and woods, but you also get magnificent views of the peaks of Latemar and of the Catinaccio. Cycle carefully along the municipal road that serves the industrial area of Soraga and you will reach the playground and town centre in a few minutes. Take the underpass to safely cross under the highway and you will come to the uphill stretch that leads to "Palua". On turning to look back, your gaze falls upon theVal di Fassa, in all its beauty, framed by the high "crode" (falls) of rocks of the  Rosengarten (Catinaccio), of Sassolungo, of Pordoi and of the Monzoni. Continue the descent to Moena. The cycle path finishes near the Minigolf Fantolin and the Centro di Addestramento Alpino (Alpino Training Centre). You must cross the town (highway or Prato di Sorte) to reach the Moena plain, the starting point in winter of the legendary Marcialonga, and regain the cyclepedestrian path that goes on down to Predazzo and Val di Fiemme.
