The colorful season in the valley, with trekking, relaxing moments in thermal water and gourmet cuisine, is dedicated to autumn lovers looking for unique experiences in the nature.
Whether you are the lucky ones going on holiday in September and October or you just love spending your week ends in the open air – until temperatures allow to do it- Val di Fassa is your place-to-be. When skies will seem to be painted in an intense blue, forests become an incredible mix of warm shades and the bubbling wind surrounds you with unique energy, the Ladin valley becomes even more appealing, celebrating the four elements: earth, wind, water and fire. The four elements are the leitmotiv of must-have experiences – also using the lifts that will still be open- creating tailormade journeys in amazing landscapes, allowing the discovery of the soul and the nature too.
Lust to listen to nature and the passion to hike will lead to discover the Monti Pallidi soul. Slowly you will reach the birthplace of the peaks. Val di Fassa, where legends are alive and King Laurin used to sped her days, is famous for its “non-conventional” hikes, the so called “Trek King”, with more than 2240 km of itineraries. The wide selection of itineraries will make you feel the real essence of the mountains, but also of the valley, where the most authentic moments such as “forest-bathing” will reinvigorate your senses.
Autumn is the best season to enjoy hikes and rides among mountains, peaks and valley in total silence. Bikes, mtb and e-bikes alike, enable people to reach easily dramatically gorgeous spots, following itineraries of various levels for training and pleasure too. To visit the valley and admire the various highlights, the “Pista ciclabile delle Dolomiti di Fassa e Fiemme” is the perfect solution: 48 km in 3 hours.
Leonardo’s dream, i.e. the flight, is one of the most incredible activities humans can do and also one of the simplest ones to do here in Val di Fassa. The valley is the capital of free flights thanks to the natural dolomitic spots and ascensional winds around the Sella massive that characterize autumn: paragliding and hang-gliders take off from Col Rodella and Belvedere becoming tiny colored points in the blue sky. And for the courageous ones, also tandem paragliding with the expert is offered.
Not only physical elevation in the air but also soul and mental activities with organized cultural events. One of the best ways to get closer to history, culture, tradition and language of the valley is to visit the Museo Ladino in Vigo, that with interactive videos makes you discover the history of the population from the ancient times until the present. From September 10, the museum is open on Thursday and Saturday from 3 pm to 7 pm; the sections on the territory will be open only with previous reservation.
Other precious possibility is offered by the exhibition 1914-1918 ‘La Gran Vera’ - La Grande Guerra: Galizia, Dolomiti”, that was officially opened in 2014 at the Navalge center of Moena and has been visited by almost 80 thousand visitors. The exhibition is divided into four sections, “Galizia 1914”, "La trincea", "Dolomiti 1915", “Guerra alla guerra”, alongside the new sectors about “Richard Löwy - Dalla Grande Guerra alla Shoah” and "Sui sentieri della storia", whose photographs testify the conditions of the trenches located on the mountains, realized by the association “Sul fronte dei ricordi” (opening hours: until September 22, every day from 10.00 am to 12.30 and 3.30 pm to 7.00 pm; Tuesdays 10.00-12.30, 3.00 pm – 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm – 11.00 pm; from September 23 to October 29: Saturdays and Sundays 3.00 pm – 7.00 pm. Entry: 5 € for adults; 3 € for kids). Always about the First World War, until end of October also “Museo della Grande Guerra 1914-1918” at Fedaia and the exhibition “Col di Lana Monte di sangue” at Passo Pordoi can be visited.
The fireplace, especially if we are in a mountain hut, represents perfectly warmth and the great typical atmosphere of the hut itself. In autumn days, after an intense hike or a taxing ride, our body needs to recover, with yummy dishes and relaxing moments. All these can be found at the 15 mountain huts will take part to “I Rifugi del Gusto in Val di Fassa”: from September 23 to October 8 the huts will offer menùs with 0 km ingredients, expression of the traditional cuisine and the incredible personalities of chefs and huts’ people (cost: 18 € for single course and dessert, 12 € for first course and dessert). Moreover, during the three week ends of the initiative, numerous meetings with alpine guides, geologists, alpinists and artists will give you the possibility to meditate and practiceyoga. In the different villages of the valley, various restaurants will give you the chance to taste delicious food, from mountain dishes to delicate creations of starred chefs. Gastronomic festivals such as “Sapori d’autunno”, promoted by the four famous chefs of “Ristora Moena”, from September 9 to September 17, “L Chimpl da Tamion” of Vigo, by the starred chef Stefano Ghetta, that from September 25 for five days will offer fish specialties, ending with “El Filò” of Pozza from October 23 to October 29. For wine-lovers the unmissable “Simposio Top Wine 2950” is back; from October 14 on the Terrazza delle Dolomiti at RIfugio Maria on Sass Pordoi.
After long intense autumn days, the best relax comes from the thermal water of Aloch in Pozza di Fassa. The village, since December 2016, counts on, in addition to Terme Dolomia, famous for the cures, also on QC Terme Dolomiti: more than four thousand square meters on three levels with whirlpool, kneipp treatments, waterfalls, Japanese baths, steam baths, saune and biosaune, salt rooms, massages and open-air pool with view on the Catinaccio. An amazing offer than contributes to turning Pozza, and Val di Fassa, into the Thermal capital of Dolomites.
Moreover, the Aquapark Vidor, officially opened in Summer 2017, offers fun and wellness for the whole family, with pools, slides, whirlpools and beauty center.
Sustainable means of transport to experience the mountains
To live the various activities in Val di Fassa and on the peaks of these unique mountains, there are numerous lifts open also in October, as the Catinaccio cablecar from Vigo that will give you the opportunity to hike towards the Rosengarten rocky heart, and the cablecar from Campitello to Col Rodella (until October 8), from where the spectacular Sassolungo can be admired. The Paolina chairlift (until October 15) from Carezza, starting point of amazing tracks towards Roda de Vael and Coronelle and the unmissable Sass Pordoi cable car that will take you to the 2950 meters of the Terrace of the Dolomites (until October 22).
