Val di Fassa: more fun, more snow, more skiing

A long season is awaiting ski fans; as here lifts operate from December to April: more than 4 months to test 210 km of slopes in 7 different ski area in Val di Fassa, some of which connected to the neighbouring valleys thanks to the Sellaronda and the Dolomiti Superski direct links. Beginners, such as families, can start on sunny easy pistes, while advanced skiers can go for steep or demanding slopes, also popular among ski professionals. In spring the nostalgic ones can’t miss the appointment with "Scufoneda", the famous telemark festival devoted to free-heel skiing.
For cross-country, there are 50 km of pistes winding between fields and woods, where to train for the Marcialonga, usually scheduled on the last Sunday of January. This is one of the main winter events, which attracts thousands of athletes from all over the world in the Fassa and Fiemme valleys every year.
Ski-mountaineering is a discipline that celebrates summit conquests. Climb up deep valleys, solitary ridges and wide grasslands to contemplate breath taking landscapes and the perfect, transcendental beauty of the Dolomites. Val di Fassa offers various exciting mountaineering itineraries, suitable for different levels of ability. For safety reasons, it is strongly advisable that you contact one of the mountain guides or the ski schools in the valley before going on such an excursion.

What to do besides skiing on your active holiday on the snow in Val di Fassa? Here is a list of sports to do to be in shape.

Snowboarding & freestyle

The trendy side of Val di Fassa: fun, snowboard, freestyle and freeride

Your snowboard, a track: let the dream begin! Val di Fassa offers the fans of this sport kilometres of slopes and six snowparks in the ski areas of Belvedere (Canazei), Buffaure (Pozza di Fassa), Carezza (Carezza Pass), San Pellegrino and Alpe Lusia (Moena). These are the cool places where snowboarders and freestylers meet, surf the snow and perform amazing freestyle acrobatics. Freedom, creativity and a bit of recklessness characterise the tribes of riders who choose Val di Fassa in winter every year. After a day spent on the slopes they meet up again in one of the après skis of the valley to share their adventures and love for the Dolomites. Amusement is guaranteed: Besides courses for any level, the ski areas also host important sport events and competitions. Val di Fassa has an irresistible fascination for freeriders, as it is a neverending source of off-piste tracks. The most famous spots are the Val Mezdì and the Val Lasties, in the Pordoi area, and off-piste tracks on Marmolada, Queen of the Dolomites. Always ski in safety and responsibly!

Outdoor Not only skiing

Val di Fassa: your personal "vital coach" for a "Zen" winter holiday

In Val di Fassa the attention is focused not only on skiing. You can also find appealing alternatives to spend your days outdoor. Start with a Nordic walk and immerse yourself in nature by enjoying the slow, meditative lifestyle in the mountains. To move onto the snow, the best thing to do is to wear a pair of snowshoes. Snow rackets have an ancient tradition, they were born even before skis and they have been attracting more and more people in the last few years. One of the possible reasons for this is that snowshoes are easy to use, as no training is needed. Moreover the feeling of floating on the snow through the woods is quite pleasant. In Val di Fassa there are plenty of itineraries, along the valleys of Duron, San Nicolò and Monzoni up to the Fuciade hollow or to Carezza Pass from Tamion (Vigo di Fassa) or Moena.
If you wish to bring back the child in you, go for a funny sleigh ride with your friends, day or night, ideally after having spent some time in one of the many mountain refuges available. Choose everything you like to customize your winter holiday in Val di Fassa at best!
