Category: Conventions/Meeting/Festival Area: In Val di Fassa from to daily programme - Resort: Canazei Place: Loc. Mortic, Pradel, Roa Itinerant event in the name of the Ladin culture, folk music and good cuisine through the ancient haylofts in Mortic, Pradel and Roa, just over Canazei
A new event enlivens the summer season in Canazei: "Da na tieja in l’autra" ("Around the mountain huts" in Ladin) is the name of the event that on Saturday, July 6 and on Sunday, July 7 opens the doors of ancient haylofts and mountain huts in Mortic, Pradel and Roa, easy to reach on foot from Pian de Frataces (Lupo Bianco-Canazei) to the visitors. Thanks to almost 20 associations, during the whole week-end, it will be possible to go on a charming path at altitude, through nature, music, culture, cuisine and sport. The location of the event is very rich in history. An area of haymaking, pasture and, in particular, a passage of those who would leave and go abroad. In the nineteenth century, the inhabitants of Val di Fassa, used to move to South Tyrol through the Sella Pass and to the richer areas in Austria and in Bavaria, to work as painters, carpenters and laborers. Some would present himself as itinerant musician or as decorator, revealing the artistic soul that has always been representing the people of the Ladin valley. «During the winter months, in the "stua" (living room, the only heated room in the Ladin house), the men used to carve the wood and sketch the so called "chiena" (toys or small animals such as dogs, horses or roosters) that they would bring to Canazei on a sleigh. Then, with the merchandise on their shoulders, they would go on through the Sella pass and then to Val Gardena to sell this "chiena" - which would have then been refined and decorated - to be able to go back home with some money, yellow flour or sugar» [from the book "Guida al Museo Ladino di Fassa", 2005, Istitut Cultural Ladin, Giunti Editore]. The signs of the Great War are still visible in Roa: the remains of a station of a zip line system that would link through the Sella pass Val Gardena with Canazei, Pordoi Pass and the City of Ice on the Marmolada.
