Sounds of the Dolomites (I Suoni delle Dolomiti) is a unique high altitude music festival which brings musicians from across the world to the most beautiful mountains of the Alps. The idea is simple and at the same time fascinating: to combine the passion for music and the mountains, art and the environment, in a concert programme celebrating freedom and nature. Participants set off from the valley floor and head for clearings and hollows near the mountain refuges, natural theatres in which the music is performed in complete harmony with the surroundings. The festival features internationally renowned artists who, instruments on their shoulders, display their shared regard for the environment by joining the public in walking to the concert venues, on what is both an art and a nature trail. It’s the outcome of the cooperation between Trentino Marketing and the Val di Fassa Tourist Board.
Sounds of the Dolomites: Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Haas. From classical music to traditional folk, magical harmonies to timeless dances. Malga Colvere (Alpe Lusia - Moena), at 12.00 p.m.
Programme: fraser and Hass are an example of how two extraordinary artistic ventures can come together in perfect synergy. Violinist Alasdair Fraser boasts a thirty-year career of concerts, awards, TV and radio appearances, and film soundtracks that include "Titanic" and "The Last of the Mohicans". Natalie Haas, a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, is now one of the most sought-after cellists of traditional music, performing and recording with Irish supergroups Solas and Altan, as well as Liz Carroll and others. Their partnership is the fulfilment of a dream for Fraser, the cello historically having played the rhythmic line of Scottish dance music. Playing with joyful energy and in perfect mutual understanding, this duo has literally enchanted the world over the last eighteen years.
