Sounds of the Dolomites (I Suoni delle Dolomiti) is a unique high altitude music festival which brings musicians from across the world to the most beautiful mountains of the Alps. The idea is simple and at the same time fascinating: to combine the passion for music and the mountains, art and the environment, in a concert programme celebrating freedom and nature. Participants set off from the valley floor and head for clearings and hollows near the mountain refuges, natural theatres in which the music is performed in complete harmony with the surroundings. The festival features internationally renowned artists who, instruments on their shoulders, display their shared regard for the environment by joining the public in walking to the concert venues, on what is both an art and a nature trail. It’s the outcome of the cooperation between Trentino Marketing and the Val di Fassa Tourist Board.
Sounds of the Dolomites: Avi Avital. Contrin Refuge, at 12.00 p.m.
Programme: classical music. Born in Be’er Sheva in southern Israel, Avi Avital is a true music star. So far, no surprises, except that his accolades and Grammy Award nomination honouring his solo art have been earned through his extraordinary talent with the mandolin. He has drawn attention to this little-known instrument also through his great recordings, dozens of compositions and performances with the foremost international orchestras. Avital has been playing the mandolin since the age of eight and has won Tel Aviv’s prestigious Aviv Competition, the first mandolinist to receive this honour.
How to get to Contrin Refuge: from Alba di Canazei, parking near the Ciampac cableway, take path no. 602 (walking time 2.30 hrs). On the day of the concert it is possible to go on an excursion accompanied by the local Alpine guides or on an e-MTB excursion accompanied by the local MTB guides (both free for the Val di Fassa Card and Trentino Guest Card holders, the rental of the bike for the e-mtb excursion is against payment). Info and enrolment: Phone +39 0462 609550 (Tourist Office of Alba di Canazei), from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. The concerts of Sounds of the Dolomites are for free.
