Resort: Sèn Jan di Fassa - Pozza di Fassa
Categories: Museums and exhibitions

Openining times: July and August

Description: emerged from the sea, 250 million years ago, these have been sculpted, smoothed and, perhaps, made even more brilliant by the sun, the wind, the rain and the snow. The presence of great amounts of minerals is characteristic of the peaks of Val di Fassa, thanks to the phenomena of volcanism which have happened in the ancient past. During your walks at altitude, you might be hit by the reflection of a rock. It is better to observe with attention, because it might be a pink quartz, a limonite, or an agate. And for those (but not only) who do not have a trained eye, it would be ideal to visit the exhibition by the "Circolo Mineralogico e Naturalistico di Fassa e Fiemme" on the first floor of the building "Ciasa de Noscia Jent" in the square "Piaza Deodat de Dolomieu" in Pozza, in "Meida". The exhibition collects a good variety of minerals and fossils, collected by the collectors and partners of the associations.
In summer, guided excursions are organized in "Val San Nicolò", "Val Monzoni", "Buffaure", "Ciampac".

Notes: the building is accessible to disabled people.

Info

Did you know?

In several points along the valley, such as the "Ciampac" in Alba di Canazei, you can see several dark rocks. These are undersea lavas dating back to more than 230 million years ago, witnesses of an intense activity that interested the area. The lava, exiting the magma corridors at a high temperature and getting in touch with the colder sea water, would get a globular structure called "pillow". The external surface of the "pillows" would quickly get colder inside and, shrinking, would often tend to break like a bread crust, forming structures with concentric layers.
