Description: taking the cabin lift from Pozza you reach the area of "Buffaure", a natural terrace of incredible beauty, overhanging the Val San Nicolò, where the green pastures alternate harmoniously with stains of wood. The "forgotten path" guides the visitors at the discovery of these places, a journey that tells, through informational totems, three different stories about geology, botany and anthropology, revealing phenomena and curiosities. Yes, because here you walk inside the "warm heart of the Dolomites", on the bed of a tropical sea covered by volcanic pours. Looking around, a huge difference between two types of mountains leaps to the eye: the light ones, of calcar origin, with vertical walls and spires, and the darker ones, with a softer shape, covered by grassy slopes. The "Monzoni" chain and the "Buffaure" hold precious treasures, rare fossils and minerals, which have been attracting scholars and researchers from all over Europe since the beginning of the 1800. The flora is rich in species, insomuch that the first tract of the itinerary is also part of another themed track: "The Alpine Garden". In addition to larches, swiss pines and pines the path is studded with gentians, lilies, edelweiss, bluebells and several other flowers. Can you believe that Francesco Facchinetti, born in "Forno" (Moena) in 1788 and among the most famous botanists of the old world, used to wander around "Buffaure" because of its variety of medical and aromatic plants to make his natural remedies to cure his patients? The "Buffaure" alp is punctuated with many tiny wooden huts, where the mountain peasants still store the hay to bring it down to the valley in autumn. It is not by chance that the peaks that stand out towards Val Monzoni are named "Cima Undici" ("Sas da le Undesc" - "11 a.m. peak") and "Cima Dodici" ("Sas da le Doudesc" - "Noon peak"), two natural meridians used since the ancient times to measure the passing of the time.
Notes: you can follow the "forgotten path" by your own or, as an alternative, you can take part to a naturalist guided excursion scheduled once a week.
