From 18th to 20th September, the festival dedicated to the cheese with unmistakable name and flavour sets off and rides through paths and meadows in the Val di Fassa Dolomites, with several appointments in the open air
The best way to taste the Puzzone di Moena Dop, getting all the scents of its aroma that comes from the mountain flowers, herbs and hay that the cows of the local cattle eat, is on the Dolomitic meadows and hills. So, the ninth edition of the "Festival del Puzzone di Moena Dop" celebrates the most romantic characteristics of this cheese and, in respect of the regulations to guarantee the public health, gives you appointment from September 18th to 20th with several events in the open air, to the foodies who appreciate the cheese by excellence in Val di Fassa, famous even beyond the regional borders.
The festival is the right occasion to experience some steps of the making of the Puzzone.
Not only tasting, so, but also activities to better know this extraordinary dairy product and appreciate in every aspects. Not by chance, the festival begins in Moena on Friday, 18th September in the morning by the farmhouse El Mas which opens its doors starting from the stable, where the milking gives a start to the production. The visit goes on with the preparation, the seasoning and, obviously, the cheese tasting. In the afternoon, through the roads of Moena, children can take part in the itinerant workshop "Mastro Burraio" (The Butter Maker), that ends with a delicious snack in the square Piaz de Ramon.
Saturday, 19th September is mainly dedicated to the "Last day at altitude" on San Pellegrino Pass where, after a healthy breakfast in the farm, it’s time to hike through the pastures and then take part in the "Cheesenic" of the "Stua de Zach" to eat on the shores of the nearby lake, and then enjoy the show "Il latte è il nostro pane" by the theatre company "La Pastière". In the afternoon, at 4.30 p.m., by the restaurant "Stella" in Moena, you can take part in "I Magnifici 5", a guided sensory tasting with the Onaf expert Francesco Gubert, to discover the secrets of the five producers of the Puzzone di Moena Dop/Spretz Tzorì. This way it is possible to detect the differences and the peculiarities of this artisanal raw milk cheesem paired with the mountain bubbles Rotari Trentodoc. In addition to the afternoon workshop "Le formiche casare" with the artist Fabio Vettori dedicated to the children, the centre of Moena hosts in the late afternoon of Saturday the itinerant "Aperitour…a tutta birra".
On Sunday, September 20th, the festival celebrates its cheese with the delicious "Trekking del Puzzone di Moena Dop", guided excursion with three gourmet stops in the surrounding of the village. The early departure is straight rewarded with the excellent breakfast by the farmhouse "El Mas", where it is also possible to know more about the whol Puzzone making procedure, from the stable to the cheese factory. The excursion goes on towards the picturesque Malga Peniola, where a typical lunch awaits the hikers, before going on with the tour. The last stop before getting back to the village is a "must" and is the restaurant Malga Panna, to sip a digestive made by the Michelin starred chef Paolo Donei. The passionate fans of the two wheels can also do the tour by bike with "Puzzone e-bike tour".
