In 2020 the brass band from Vigo celebrates its double century with exhibitions and events
Since 1820, the "Mùsega da Vich" has never given up playing. So, in 2020, the brass band of Vigo celebrates with satisfaction its 200 years of existence and activity. An historical achievement for this village in Val di Fassa – which since 2017 has also been part of "I Borghi più belli d'Italia" - and which has always been cultivating the music temper expressed by its founder, Giovanni Battista Detomas, organ player at the church Pieve di San Giovanni whose wish was mainly to "make the divine cult more respectable and majestic". Not only, the love for the music notes is witnessed by a definition of 1600 of the people from Val di Fassa: "people born to be happy who learn, I may say, in their mother’s womb, to play the lyre and other instruments and this is their only skill, which brings them around the world to celebrate". Apparently, in the Ladin valley, people were happy to dedicate and play instruments and dance during the religious ceremonies and the village feasts. Much time has passed since the birth of the first group, which was formed by 18 musicians and that afterwards has assumed rules and access standards. The group has survived several historic happenings, with some moments of break, but also with new lfe, insomuch that it has got to nowadays, active and lively. Today, the "Mùsega da Vich" counts 66 musicians and two flagbearers, directed by Master Alessandro Ghetta and chaired by Donato Calligari. The repertoire of the group, which performs in a traditional costume with lively colours, is the traditional brass band repertoire, with an eye to modern times too. In this 2020, in particular, the brass band is planning several events: in February, the exhibition "200 egn" (200 years) has been launched, on May, 8th there will be the "Conzert d’Aisciuda" (springtime concert), on August 6th the special edition of the "Festa del canederlo" and from September 25th to 27th the "Gran Festa dei 200 Egn" (200 years’ big feast).
