The dolomitic valley is ready for winter 2021-2022 with interesting news on mountain lifts and slopes, also reserving great emotions thanks to unique experiences among the nature covered in snow, thermal waters and local gastronomy

The desire to put on boots and skis is about to become true in Val di Fassa, which is ready to give start, already since the end of November, to the snow season, in all its forms. The valley of Ladin language and culture, which extends for about twenty kilometres between the villages of Moena and Canazei in the heart of the Dolomites, is an exceptional destination for the skiaholics that this winter can schedule the first descents from December 4, when all the lifts will be fully operational.
A long winter to spend in Val di Fassa on the 210 km of tracks in two great districts like "Val di Fassa - Carezza" and "Alpe Lusia - San Pellegrino", served by a eighty between chairlifts, gondolas and cable cars, 4 ski tours including the famous Sellaronda and the appreciated ski tour Panorama and 6 snow parks. To complete the offer, 5 ski schools (all in possession of the "Golden Seal" for the quality of teaching) for those who want to learn or improve their technique by having fun and several "kindergartens" and playgrounds on the snow, in altitude and at the bottom of the valley, to delight children and families. Among the most interesting and comfortable services, then, which the guests can make use of: the ski passes that can now be purchased also online and the ski buses which, with numerous daily trips, allow you to leave your car stationary during your stay.

News on track
The Ladin valley is a paradise for alpine skiing and it shows once again its dynamism in the field of the mountain lifts, with the expansion of some slopes, the constant strengthening of the snow-making system and, in particular, some new mountain lifts in the ski area Belvedere in Canazei and in the ski area Carezza.  In the first case, we are talking about the Kristiania chairlift which is now a 6-seat detachable chairlift, starting from the same perching point and leading to the top of Col dei Rossi, next to the arrival of the Alba-Col dei Rossi cable car (which starts from Alba di Canazei) and the Pecol-Col dei Rossi cable car, also renewed and equipped with new cabins.

In the ski area Carezza, instead, you can get on the ultra-modern detachable 10-seat gondola lift König Laurin (1 + 2), with an innovative underground station: the lift, designed by Doppelmayr, connects the Malga Frommer dairy hut with the Fronza alle Coronelle refuge during a fascinating journey of few more than 6 minutes (difference in altitude 650 meters). Moreover, skiers will find an extension of the detachable 6-seat chairlift Tschein and even the new cable car (60 seats) Tires - Malga Frommer, a "cabrio" cableway with balcony, the only one in Italy and the first one in the whole Dolomiti Superski.
In the Buffaure ski area in Pozza the slope Salvan (new variant of the former "Buffaure di sotto") has become a beautiful blue slope, also suitable for the activities of the new “Baby” school field, equipped with magic carpets that are easy to use for those who learn to move on ski. Also noteworthy is the upgrading of the snowmaking system in the "Ski Area Alpe Lusia - San Pellegrino", famous for the slope La Volata, which in February 2021 hosted three Alpine Skiing Women World Cup races (2 Downhill and 1 super-G). La Volata and the Aloch Ski Stadium in Pozza were also the venue of the 2019 World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships.

Skiing in safety
The access to the ski lifts takes place in full compliance with the health-protection regulations: 80% is the permitted capacity on closed systems (cable cars, gondolas and chair lifts with canopies), while 100% is allowed on open systems (chairlift without canopies and ski platters). It is mandatory for the skiers to be equipped with the so-called green pass (swab for those who are not vaccinated) and with the face mask.

Challenges for champions
In Val di Fassa, alpine skiing is also synonymous with competition and great champions. Thanks to the “Piste Azzurre' project, which has been implemented for a long time in agreement with Fisi and recently renovated for another five years to land at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the men's and women's national alpine skiing teams train in Val di Fassa. There are eight slopes made available to skiers participating in the top international circuits. On some of them, prestigious competitions are held even this winter. In particular, the Pra di Tori slope in the ski area Carezza hosts on December 16th a parallel giant slalom race for both men and women valid for the Snowboard World Cup. Also on December 16th, by the Aloch Ski Stadium in Pozza takes place the men’s European Cup special slalom (at daytime), followed on 17th and 18th December by the Italian Ski Grand Prix. On 20th and 21st December, instead, on the slope La Volata on Passo San Pellegrino the “jet girls” compete in a couple of European Cup downhill races. Furthermore, there is huge enthusiasm for the Fis Baltic Cup which, after the success of the 2021 edition, returns both in 2022 and in 2023 at the Aloch Ski Stadium with about 300 athletes involved during several days of competition. In 2022 the competitions are scheduled in January, precisely: on 19th January Fis giant slalom, on 20th January Latvia Championships (giant), on 21st January Lithuania Championships (giant); on 25th January Fis special slalom, on 26th January Latvia Championships (special slalom) and on 27th January Lithuania Championships (special slalom).

Encounters with the nature and well-being
Val di Fassa, in addition to alpine skiing, can offer a lot to those who choose it for a winter stay. If you are looking for experiences in nature, there are many routes in an amazing Dolomite environment, to be experienced with mountaineering skis, snowshoes or winter boots (depending on the snow conditions). These are activities to be practiced, preferably, in the company of alpine guides to enjoy every moment, in safety, along unusual itineraries that lead to the heart of the mountains. Among the prominent sports, there is cross-country skiing that allows you to combine outdoor activities, to be carried out at your own pace, with the white landscapes that for example surround the Marcialonga di Fiemme and Fassa track or the rings of the Alochet centre at San Pellegrino.
To explore the territory, in full harmony with nature, in the Ladin valley you can enjoy the fascinating horse riding in the snow, or make short tours aboard horse-drawn sleighs Also pleasant, then, the walks through the streets of the Fassa villages to discover the peculiarities of Ladin culture, of typical products and of local gastronomy, which gets to the top of quality, for the care taken of raw materials and creativity.
In terms of cuddles, intense days in the open air are perfectly accompanied by breaks in the waters of the centre Dòlaondes in Canazei, where fun is guaranteed, or in the thermal baths of Pozza, now a must in the valley: in addition to the Terme Dolomia, known for cures and treatments (affiliated with the national health service), since 2016 there are also the QC Terme Dolomiti. The centre is spread over more than four thousand square meters of whirlpools, Kneipp paths, waterfalls, Japanese baths, steam baths, saunas and bio saunas, salt rooms, massage areas and, last but not least, outdoor swimming pools (water temperature 36°) overlooking the Catinaccio chain. Therefore, you cannot end your holiday without a little relaxation as only the centres of Fassa, the thermal capital of the Dolomites, can offer.
