He’s from Canazei and he’s the first sommelier of Trentino to be awarded by the AIS with the exclusive title on October 29 in the beautiful scenery of Taormina
“It’s a huge goal for me, as I’m also the first sommelier of Trentino to receive the prestigious prize” commented Roberto Anesi after the award ceremony. He’s absolutely thrilled to be the "Best Sommelier of Italy 2017", the title that AIS has given him on October 29 at the San Domenico Palace of Taormina. Roberto Anesi, a 45 years-old local from Canazei, which has already participated in 2008 and 2009 to the event promoted by Associazione Italiana Sommelier in collaboration with Istituto Trentodoc, flew to Sicily for the semifinal (October 28) – a difficult written exam about wine, spirits beer and coffee and thus for the final (October 29) with other three candidates: the final took place in front of an expert committee and 250 people. Anesi, owner of “El Pael” with his wife Manuela, is a well-known sommelier in Italy and in the international sommelier scenery. Since 2006 he has been studying and participating to numerous events (he also won the title of “Best sommelier of Trentino”), and in 2013 he deepened his knowledges following the lesson at “The Institute of Master of Wine” of London: “It has been a one-of-a-kind experience that contributed to the development of my skills broadening also my international network”. It’s a mix of unborn skills but also a lot of study to face the AIS event, more than ten hours among books, tastings and detailed study sessions. Now our “Best Sommelier of Italy” has to get ready for a bright and full year: “I feel the responsibility of being the Italian ambassador of wine, and I will give my best to face all challenges and events that future holds for me”.
