Programme: starting from the Paolina Refuge (2,125 m), which can be easily reached by chair lift, take track no. 539, a short and panoramic junction between the uphill station of the lift from Carezza and the track no. 549, leading to the Roda di Vael Refuge . Few metres after the chair lift, turn right and follow the wide track that goes up steeply on huge steps across the grazing of the "Majaré". On the right, the Latemar chain captures the gaze. Go up to the crossing with the famous track "Sentiero del Majaré" or "Hirzelweg", entitled to the editor from Lipsia, a passionate walker in love with the Dolomites, who encouraged the construction of this 5 km long track, that goes on at the foot of the "Cresta di Majaré" cliffs and of the impressive red wall of the "Roda de Vael". This itinerary is also a connection between the refuges Roda di Vael and Fronza alle Coronelle. Go on, then, along path no. 539 and you will quickly reach the monument to Theodor Christomannos (20 mins), a doctor from Merano but of Greek origins, who invented the trail "Strada delle Dolomiti" and was a big promoter of the tourist development of the area. After passing the bronze eagle, go on along a slight slope first and along a light descent, circumventing the peaks of the "Majaré". The track goes easily on in an open environment with a beautiful view over the Dolomites of Val di Fassa and over the valley, leading to the saddle of "Ciampaz" and to the refuges Baita Marino Pederiva and Roda di Vael, at 2,280 m. (25 mins; 45 mins). Come back along the same track (recommended for families with children), or take the hiking trail no. 548, just beyond Baita Marino Pederiva Refuge, on the left. You will be back to the pass in 1.45 hour, beside Hotel Savoy. Otherwise, walk down from Paolina Refuge without taking the lift, along path no. 552. Those who prefer to make a longer excursion can take one of the several tracks leading down to Catinaccio/Ciampedìe from the Roda di Vael Refuge.
