The beginning of the competitions that, from February 18 to 27, will make Val di Fassa the core of the world of the young skiers is very close
Ten days for 11 titles and 33 medals to award. These are some of the fundamental numbers of the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships, in Val di Fassa from February 18 to 27. The countdown to the event that brings more than 650 athletes and staffs from 54 countries to the Dolomites has almost come to an end. The organizing committee, chaired by Davide Moser and coordinated by the general secretary Filippo Bazzanella, has been working hard at it for almost two years and is now arranging the last details of an important event that will officially start in Canazei, on February 18 at 6.00 p.m. with the Opening Ceremony: after the parade of the teams through the town centre and the speeches of the authorities, there will be space for the notes, the images and many surprises, From February 19, instead, trainings and races will take place, according to a thick calendar that sees the athletes (between 16 and 20 years old), competing in the technical disciplines – slalom, giant slalom and the team event – on the slope "Aloch" in Pozza, and in the speed events – superG and downhill – on "La VolatA" on San Pellegrino Pass. Competitions, awardings – in the beautiful squares of Moena – and events that colour the Junior Championships with positive competitiveness and sportive joy. Young, moreover, refers not only to the athletes competing on the slopes for the world champion title, but also to the staff that can count on 400 volunteers and on more than 100 students from the Scuola Ladina di Fassa High School. The World Championships bring a real breath of youth in Val di Fassa that has now the opportunity to show to the world, also thanks to the live broadcast of some competitions, its most dynamic side, as well as its ability in organizing and its Ladin-style hospitality: the event brings 10 000 overnights, but also other services – like the restaurants – of which athletes, staffs and fans can make use. Not to forget, also, that the event focuses on two extraordinary slopes, in which the lift companies have invested and in which the whole Val di Fassa believes: after the junior world competitions, in fact, we hope that "Aloch" and "La VolatA" will have the chance to host the major races.
