Sounds of the Dolomites (I Suoni delle Dolomiti) is a unique high altitude music festival which brings musicians from across the world to the most beautiful mountains of the Alps. The idea is simple and at the same time fascinating: to combine the passion for music and the mountains, art and the environment, in a concert programme celebrating freedom and nature. Participants set off from the valley floor and head for clearings and hollows near the mountain refuges, natural theatres in which the music is performed in complete harmony with the surroundings. The festival features internationally renowned artists who, instruments on their shoulders, display their shared regard for the environment by joining the public in walking to the concert venues, on what is both an art and a nature trail. It’s the outcome of the cooperation between Trentino Marketing and the Val di Fassa Tourist Board.
Sounds of the Dolomites: special project. 3-day trek with Avi Avital, Giovanni Sollima.Take to the footpaths with two exceptional charismatic and passionate musicians. Catinaccio mountain refuges
Programme: Giovanni Sollima is a versatile artist. He has made appearances on stages across the world, performing with top musicians, orchestras, artists and writers, and has composed and played for cinema, theatre, television and dance. He has been a guest of Sounds of the Dolomites before, but this time he will embark with his cello on what is probably the Festival’s most complete experience with three days of mountains and music. By his side will be Avi Avital, the first mandolin soloist to be nominated for a Grammy Award, whose innovative force and charisma are matched by few of the greats. It is largely due to him that the 21st century is again producing music for the mandolin - over a hundred contemporary compositions have been written for him - and the public have found renewed enthusiasm for this long-neglected instrument.
The participation is against payment and it is limited to a maximum of 40 experience walkers with appropriate equipment (enrolments from 15th April; Booking Office ApT Val di Fassa - Phone +39 0462 609666). The price € 420 includes bed and breakfast in the refuges, packet lunch, accompaniment and assistance by the mountain guides, transfer service, lift tickets.
