Wake up bright and early when the sun is yet to rise. Meet the owners of an authentic mountain dairy, listen to their stories and go with them to milk the cows. Enjoy the fresh milk’s flavor, attend to the traditional cheese making and, why not, taste the curd! Let’s discover how they transform the cream in butter. Go up to the pasture and learn how to distinguish the wild grasses’ spouts. Start your day with cows and animals up at a mountain dairy. How about that?
After the great success of the past editions, #albeinmalga is back again. The initiative, sponsored by Trentino Marketing in collaboration with the Tourist Boards of the province and the "Strade del Vino e dei Sapori del Trentino", gives its participants the chance to experience the authentic life of a mountain dairy. #albeinmalga will take place in Val di Fassa on July 5 and 6 at Malga Jumela, on July 19 and 20 at Malga Sasso Piatto, on August 9 and 10 at Malga Contrin. Limited places. Booking compulsory.
Programme Alba in Malga - Malga Contrin
Saturday, August 9
4.00 p.m. - Meeting point by the Ciampac cabin lift in Alba di Canazei.
4.15 p.m. - 6.30 p.m. - Led by our expert Alpine guide, we will reach Contrin Refuge (2,016 m), where we will spend the night. The excursion lasts about 2 hours and a half and is 4.6 km long with 600 m ascent, following the path no. 602 "Val Contrin".
7.00 p.m. - Dinner with traditional products and overnight stay at the refuge.
Sunday, August 10
5.30 a.m. - Wake up! After a good coffee we head to the mountain dairy and, following Konrad, gather the cows strewn across the green pastures.
6.00 a.m. - It’s time for milking and collect milk to make a delicious cheese...
7.30 a.m. - While the milk warms, we enjoy a bountiful "country" breakfast with the dairy products.
8.15a.m. - The magic of rennet: Konrad explains us all the secrets for a perfect cheese making, and how to prepare a delicious "Nostrano" of the Malga Contrin and some "ricotta" (kind of cottage cheese).
10.00 a.m. - After the cheesemaking we start an exciting excursion to San Nicolò Pass (about 1 hour walking) and, along a beautiful trail across the wood, we return to the downstream station of Ciampac cabin lift. Packed lunch, to be required at the dairy. Return at about 3.00 p.m.
Participation: € 75,00 (children up to 12 years old € 55,00). It includes: dinner and overnight stay at the refuge (maximum 40 beds), activities at dawn, breakfast, excursion with the mountain guide. Booking compulsory.
We suggest adequate clothing: participants will spend the morning in the barn and will start an easy excursion on the Dolomites. Children from 5 years, well-trained. Minimum 15 participants. The event will be cancelled in case of bad weather.
