John Scofield Quartet

John Scofield Quartet "Yankee Go Home"

The 26th edition of Dolomiti Ski Jazz, for the last evening event, comes to Moena with the concert of John Scofield, one of the most influential guitarists in the history of jazz

From 8th to 17th March, the "jazz track" crosses the valleys of Fassa and Fiemme with concerts on the terraces of the refuges, in clubs, theatres and squares.

From Canazei to Cavalese, all the way to Cembra: the Dolomiti Ski Jazz proposes also this year as many as 24 concerts. Warm rhythms such as jazz, but also blues, funk and Latin music will create thrilling contrasts with the snow-covered scenery of the Dolomites. Artists from the international scene will perform in the evenings in the clubs and theatres of the villages, while during the day they will take to the mountains, on the terraces of the mountain huts, some of which can also be reached by non-skiers. The festival will move day after day from one slope to another, from the Belvedere ski area in Canazei to the Alpe Cermis in Cavalese.

Dolomiti Ski Jazz: John Scofield Quartet. "Navalge" Theatre (Moena), Saturday 16 March at 9pm

Programme: "Yankee Go Home" is the affectionate title John Scofield has given to his latest project, which tackles a musical repertoire from his homeland. A roots-rock-jazz band that spans American rock, folk and jazz hits. In this project, Scofield reconnects with many of the rock'n'roll roots from his teenage days, naturally coloured by his 50-year great career. He will be accompanied by Jon Cowherd (formerly with Brian Blade Fellowship and Cassandra Wilson), Vicente Archer (formerly with Robert Glasper, Louis Hayes and Scofield Combo 66) and Josh Dion. The repertoire includes classics by Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, the Grateful Dead and Buddy Holly, alongside pearls by Pharoah Sanders and Leonard Bernstein, as well as a handful of original songs. Born in Ohio in 1951, after an apprenticeship in the bands of Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Billy Cobham & George Duke, Charles Mingus, Gary Burton and David Liebman, Scofield joined Miles Davis' band in 1982. Since then, his career has known no let-up. Subsequent collaborations include the guitar summit with Pat Metheny and the long-lasting partnership that began in 1998 with the trio Medeski, Martin & Wood.

Music band: John Scofield (guitar), Jon Cowherd (piano), Vicente Archer (bass), Josh Dion (drums).
