Val San Nicolò

Val San Nicolò

Sentiero ciaspole

A hike through the beautiful Val San Nicolò, once a land of pastures, as the barns and huts of the Pozza families show.

Start from the hamlet of "Meida" and walk along Strada de Meida that then turns into Strada Ruf de Ruacia, you will arrive near a bridge ("Pont de Garneté") that ...
crosses the creek "Ruf de Sèn Nicolò", nearby the Restaurant Soldanella. Just before the bridge, turn right onto a small dirt road, slightly steep at the beginning but then getting steeper and winding. Afterwards the path becomes flat until it joins the Val San Nicolò road. At the Crucifix Chapel, keep on the left side of the road and walk on a beaten track, along flat stretches and long hills, until you go out the wood in and reach a place called "Saùch". Proceed in the direction of Baita Ciampié (the only refreshment point in the area open in winter).

Author's advice:

Hiking with or without snowshoes. Pay attention to skiers (mountaineering skiing), snowmobiles and toboggans. Should you need any information about snow and path conditions do contact the mountain guides.

At the start of the route, there’s a Girsberger Artva checkpoint, allowing mountaineering skiers and snowshoers, equipped with self-rescue equipment, to check the state of their device. The checkpoint also keeps track of the passages, in order to know exactly how many people pass through this route and how many of them have the Artva.
