On 27th and 28th February 2021 two Alpine Ski World Cup Women speed events take place on "La Volata" in the ski area San Pellegrino
There’s great satisfaction in Val di Fassa for the decision of the latest FIS Council to schedule two Ski World Cup women races on the slope "La Volata" in the ski area San Pellegrino on 27th and 28th February 2021. We are speaking about the retrieval of the downhill and super-G races that have been cancelled some days ago in Yanqing, in China, which make possible the debut of Val di Fassa in the Alpine Skiing most important international circuit. A long-awaited goal that arrives after the success in organizing several European Cup competitions – both on "La Volata" and at the Ski Stadium Aloch in Pozza (technical races) – and above all after the Alpine Skiing Junior World Ski Championship in 2019. Also to mention, the fact that the valley has been home to the "Piste Azzurre" project for years, which means that in partnership with FISI several tracks are put ad disposal of the National Ski team (both men and women) and of important foreign champions and teams throughout the season, thanks to the local lift companies, to Dolomiti Superski and to the Tourist Board Val di Fassa as well as to other supporters.
The two World Cup races consist in a reward for the dedication of several professionals throughout the valley, as the FISI president Flavio Roda highlights: "This is once again an acknowledgement to the great ability of our country in organizing these events and to the receptiveness of the land in being always ready in this kind of situations, which the FIS can always count on". Also the head of the lift company of San Pellegrino has, obviously, reacted with pride to the choice of "La Volata": "This decision of the FIS – says Mauro Vendruscolo, president of the ski area San Pellegrino – represents a big satisfaction for our land. The international spotlights enlighten one of the most adrenalinic slopes in the Dolomites, to confirm the quality of the job done in the years by our staff, by the Val di Fassa and by our whole district."
Few days after the end of the World Championships in Cortina, Val di Fassa, hosting the Chinese downhill and super-G races, will give the possibility to the Fis to safeguard the Cup calendar. "It’s a dream that becomes true, something that we have been awaiting for 30 years – has commented the Provincial Councillor for Sport, Roberto Failoni, a recognition of an organizational capacity that is typical of our land, as well as of the validity of the infrastructures that we have in Trentino. And this is also a positive sign for the future, considering the difficult situation that we are experiencing. It’s time to work now and it won’t be easy, but I am sure that, thanks to everybody’s dedication, we will be able to organize a great event. Trentino is there and it will be ready. A special thanks goes to the FISI and to its president Flavio Roda in particular".
