The streets of "Meida" are overrun by Krampus: legendary figures, somewhere between the devil and animals, with terrifying masks and chains announcing the arrival of Saint Nicholas
Over 400 demons will descend upon Pozza for the eighth grand Krampus Parade, arriving from across Trentino-Alto Adige and led by the hosts, I Krampus da Poza. Held every two years, the event is for those unafraid of the dark side of tradition.
According to ancient custom, the devils accompany the arrival of St Nicholas on the evening of 5 December - patron saint of Pozza, celebrated the following day. Who are they? Beings caught between the animal and the diabolical, tasked with punishing naughty children, while the good receive gifts from the saint. Clad in heavy fur costumes, armed with chains, whips and cowbells, crowned with long horns and wearing intricately carved wooden masks with razor-sharp teeth, they merge the sacred and the profane in a primal procession.
As darkness falls, the deep clang of cowbells, guttural roars and the crackle of torches fill the "Strada de Meida" (closed to traffic and lit by fires in barrels). From the church of St Nicholas, the Krampus surge through the barriers, flanked by firefighters and local police, until they reach the square "Piaza de Comun", where groups perform beneath flickering lights. The night ends in the event pavilion, where from 9 p.m. the Krampusparty erupts to the sound of live music.
Tent opening with food and drinks from 7.30 p.m.
