Throughout the summer, Val di Fassa will be able to count on its first rangers, a new role introduced by the Tourist Board to improve the welcome for visitors and promote a more responsible approach to enjoying the mountains. From mid-June to mid-September, Carolina Chenetti and Marco Mazzel will be stationed at the main access points to the Fassa Dolomites, from the Sella, Pordoi, Fedaia, Costalunga and San Pellegrino passes to some of the most popular hiking destinations, such as Fuciade, Val Duron and Val San Nicolò.
Recognisable by their green uniforms, the rangers will provide information on routes, hikes and local conditions, helping visitors choose trails suited to their abilities and raising awareness of the importance of tackling the mountains with the right equipment. This service is designed primarily for those visiting the Dolomites for the first time.
Alongside their support role, Carolina and Marco will also monitor the area. Following training with mountain guides and the mountain rescue service, they will patrol the rest areas at the Dolomite mountain passes to prevent unauthorised wild camping and encourage the correct disposal of rubbish along roads and footpaths.
The project represents a further investment by ApT Val di Fassa in the sustainable management of tourist flows and complements the high-altitude information points already in place at the main mountain stations of the ski lifts. The rangers will also help monitor visitor numbers in the area, providing useful data for planning maintenance, services and the promotion of alternative routes, with the aim of distributing visitors more evenly and improving the quality of the visitor experience in the valley.
