Shuttle to Val Contrin: service from Alba di Canazei to Baita Locia Contrin.
From June to October, a minibus taxi shuttle runs between the Ciampac cable car car park in Alba di Canazei and Baita Locia Contrin, the gateway to Val Contrin. The valley is closed to motor traffic. From here, the route continues on foot towards the Contrin mountain hut along a 3.4 km trail with 280 metres of elevation gain. The average walking time is 1 hour and 15 minutes. The final section, with its hairpin bends, is more challenging due to the terrain and gradient.
Val Contrin, a hanging valley of glacial origin at the foot of the Marmolada, invites you to explore it at a slower pace, surrounded by wide open landscapes and mountain peaks that seem almost within reach. Behind you rises the Sella Group; to the left, the Marmolada; to the right, the Colac; while the Contrin stream flows along the valley floor. The area is characterised by the Contrin mountain hut, the nearby Malga Contrin, gravel slopes, larch forests and wide pastures offering beautiful views of the Sassolungo.
The valley also preserves important traces of history: during the First World War, it served as an Austrian military base, and original trenches and positions can still be seen along the route.
Useful information: dogs allowed (max. 1 per shuttle), for a fee; must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle.
