Don’t let the distance put you off. The Antermoia refuge, built in 1911 in the Vallon d'Antermoia, rewards everyone who makes it up here with a view of a glacial lake, the only one in the Catinaccio massif. It’s a fascinating sight, especially just after the thaw and in summer when it’s deep blue. Here, you will be welcomed by Martin Riz, local mountain guide and rescuer - like his father Silvio and ... his grandfather Luigi - who reveiced the baton by the former manager Giambisi Almo. The refuge is open in summer, but has a winter room, too, and was recently renovated by SAT, increasing the number of beds (without changing the historic building) to accommodate the demands of walkers and climbers. Open From 20 June to 20 September Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks From the Refuge, walk through the Vallon di Antermoia to reach the Vajolet and Preuss refuges in 3 hours (difficulty EE). Walk over the Dona and Ciaregole passes to get to the Alpe di Tires refuge in 3 ½ hours (difficulty E). Catinaccio di Antermoia can be climbed on the via ferrata on the east face (2 ½ hours; difficulty EEA). Gardeccia be reached by going over Passo de Laussa and the Scalette protected path (4 hours, difficulty EEA).
