Stella Alpina "Spiz Piaz"

There are at least three (good) reasons to go up the Valle di Fassa to Gardeccia on foot, by bicycle or by the lifts: to spread a blanket on the grass and watch the children play, to stroll along a few easy footpaths, or to shoulder your rucksack and head up to the Catinaccio’s rock faces. Whatever takes your fancy, the Stella Alpina Spiz Piaz Rifugio, on your left as you walk up towards the Valle ... del Vajolet - an area much loved and frequented by tourists - was built in this valley basin as far back as the late 19th century. Originally just a barn with a hayloft, it has been enlarged several times until the last re-structuring in 2011. Open From mid-May to mid-October From late December to Easter Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks From Gardeccia it’s an easy 45-minute walk up to the Vallon del Vajolet refuges (Vaiolet and Paul Preuss), where all sorts of opportunities open up for mountaineering or walking in the Catinaccio. The Rifugio Ciampedìe is a 40-minute walk in the opposite direction to Gardeccia, on an equally easy and less steep path.
