The Rifugio Valentini was built in 1884 on the old Passo Sella road (a little lower than the current road) and accommodated mostly traders on their way between the Valle di Fassa and Valle Gardena. Then came the era of tourism in the Dolomites and the refuge - now in its fourth generation - is these days bustling with walkers and climbers with their sights on the rock faces of Sella and Sassolungo, ... and with skiers who come here in winter to enjoy the pistes of the Sella Ronda. Inside the refuge (which is right on the ski slopes, but is also accessible by car a short distance from Passo Sella) there is also a small indoor climbing wall. Open From mid-June to late September From early December to early April Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks The Rifugio Valentini can be a starting point for the Giro del Sassolungo (5 hours, difficulty E), a circular route passing the Salei, Friedrich August, Pertini, Sassopiatto and Vicenza refuges. The Rifugio Vicenza can also be reached via Forcella Sassolungo (also accessible by cable car) in 2 ½ hours (difficulty E). This refuge is also a starting point for walks in the Sella Group.
