Guided hike from Ciampedie to Roda di Vael, along one of the oldest paths in Val di Fassa, rediscovering the life of mountain shepherds before the advent of tourism
Starting from "Ciampedie", you will embark on a journey through time, discovering the history and deep roots of Val di Fassa. Walking through woods, pastures and scenic trails, you will retrace the stages of rural life that shaped the valley before the advent of tourism. Once upon a time, the local economy was based on the cultivation of potatoes, wheat and rye, and on the rearing of a few head of cattle. Over the centuries, thanks to the ingenuity and care of the Ladin people, these activities led to the production of fine cheeses, now renowned throughout the Alps. Along the trail, which leads to the foot of the majestic Gran Roda de Vael wall, you can admire some of the most fascinating flowers of the Dolomites, such as edelweiss and the fragrant nigritella, a small orchid with a dark, intense colour. But that's not all: with a little attention and silence, you can also observe marmots, hear the calls of their sentinels and perhaps surprise them as they play or bask in the sun among their ingenious underground hiding places. All this takes place at the foot of legendary peaks, where fundamental pages of the history of classic mountaineering have been written. An experience that combines landscape, culture and living nature in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites.
