There are landscapes that can be observed. And others that can be described. Fernando Brunel does both. An artist, painter and writer born in Soraga in 1948, he portrays the mountains through the eyes of someone who has always lived amongst them and looked after them.
Created en plein air using techniques ranging from oil to watercolour, from pastel to pencil, his works are inspired by Impressionist painting and capture the light, colours and spirit of the Ladin Dolomites. Alongside landscapes and village scenes, the exhibition also features characters from the Ladin carnival, wearing the traditional faceres, and furniture painted in the "Fassa style", of which Brunel is an expert restorer: these are testaments to a culture that he continues to promote in his role as president of the Union of Ladins of Fassa.
Housed at the "Tobià de Val", an old barn converted into a studio and exhibition space, the exhibition invites visitors to discover an authentic Ladinia, where art, memory and identity come together in the spirit of tradition.
The exhibition, open daily from 4 pm to 7 pm with free admission, is easily accessible on foot from the centre of Vigo. Parking is recommended near the events pavilion. Opening on Saturday 8 August at 4 pm.
