Two days in Val San Nicolò to celebrate Ladin culture and traditions with excellent gastronomy, touring concerts, folk dancing, theatrical performances and children's games
On Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August, Val San Nicolò will host Festa ta Mont - two days dedicated to the valley’s most authentic traditions: customs, stories and legends that still feel truly alive here. Among the old alpine huts - known as "tieja" in Ladin - once used as seasonal homes and barns during summer grazing, you can immerse yourself in Ladin culture, discover local customs and savour traditional dishes, all set to cheerful folk music.
Around twenty food stands, from "Saùch" to "Baita Ciampiè" mountain hut, will bring the valley to life along a route made for tasting: platters of local cold cuts and cheeses, canederli and polenta, goulash, spit-roasted pork, shank and ribs, sausages and sauerkraut… right through to the homely sweet flavours of the celebration: fortae, apple fritters, apple strudel, tarts, Kaiserschmarrn, krapfen, yoghurt and whipped cream from the alpine dairy. And if you arrive early, you can even treat yourself to breakfast in a mountain hut. After lunch, it's time for culture and fun: a photography exhibition to explore at your leisure - this year dedicated to mountaineering in Val di Fassa and its leading figures - while children have a blast with zip lines, trampolines, games in the hay and creative workshops.
Above all, Festa ta Mont is a celebration of the local community, made possible by the commitment of over two hundred volunteers - a shared energy that, year after year, creates an atmosphere of friendship and joy. Each edition revolves around a central theme that guides the narrative.
You can reach Val San Nicolò on foot or by shuttle bus (route "Vidor" > "Saùch"; runs from 9 am to 6.30 pm; 5 € single ticket; 8 € return ticket). To avoid queuing at the ticket office, tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the ticket office.
