In the occasion of the patrons' feast Saints Rocco and Sebastian the local group "Grop de la Mèscres de Dèlba e Penia" organizes the festival of traditional masks of Ladin Carnival
On 15 August, Penìa comes alive with celebration. The village streets fill with colour, music and tradition as the unmistakable faceres - wooden masks hand-carved by local artisans - and costumes adorned with colourful ribbons and large cowbells announce the arrival of the "Gròp de la Mèscres de Dèlba e Penìa", the association that has preserved the traditions of the Fassa Carnival for generations.
To celebrate Saint Roch, the village's patron saint, its members don their finest costumes and bring this much-loved local festival to life. At the heart of the celebration is the green area surrounding the "Sia", the historic water-powered sawmill, now part of the Ladin Museum of Fassa. Here, locals and visitors come together to enjoy Ladin specialities, live music, dancing and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that captures the true spirit of a traditional mountain village festival.
The programme includes Holy Mass, a concert, the traditional parade of the "Gròp de la Mèscres" together with other folk groups from the centre of Penìa to the "Sia", and folk dance performances throughout the afternoon and evening.
A wonderful opportunity to experience one of the most authentic expressions of Ladin culture and celebrate summer in one of Val di Fassa's most picturesque villages.
