L'Alba delle Dolomiti: Wu Wei, Alexis Baskind, Pascal Contet

Welcome the sunrise from Col Margherita with music that blends past and present: a sound journey from the ancient roots of Greater China to the frontiers of contemporary experimentation

I Suoni delle Dolomiti are unique encounters between music, nature and silence. In a theatre without walls, where the landscape becomes the stage, artists and audience share the journey and the act of listening. Harmonies intertwine with the breath of the mountains, in an experience that exists only here and now.

30 years of I Suoni delle Dolomiti: special project "L'Alba delle Dolomiti". Wu Wei, Alexis Baskind, Pascal Contet. Col Margherita (San Pellegrino Pass - Moena), Thursday, 4 September at 6:30 a.m.

Programme
Born in China and trained in Shanghai and Berlin, Wu Wei brings the sheng to Col Margherita, at 2,534 metres, a traditional Chinese instrument resembling a small mouth organ, with bamboo pipes set in a metal frame. In the true spirit of the festival, which fosters dialogue between diverse musical traditions and languages, Wu Wei explores the sheng’s potential through a contemporary lens. Melodies, harmonies, rhythms and polyphonies unfold across classical repertoires, chamber music, jazz, and into the realms of electronic and minimalist experimentation. Joining him on Col Margherita are: Pascal Contet, French accordionist and pioneer of the contemporary use of his instrument; Alexis Baskind, double bassist, sound engineer and electronic composer based in Berlin. A meeting of cultures that finds its natural home in the mountains - not as a place of barriers, but as a space of passage, dialogue, and transformation.

How to get to Col Margherita: by car to San Pellegrino Pass (parking available at the cable car station or at the pass), take the cable car, exceptionally open from 4:00 a.m. (capacity: 1,300 people/hour) and then on foot (approx. 20-minute downhill walk; elevation loss 100 m; difficulty level E). Round-trip tickets available in advance from late August at the cable car ticket office and at the tourist office in Moena. The Panorama Pass and Dolomiti Supersummer pass are also valid.

Admission to the concert is free. We recommend arriving at the venue at least one hour before the start. Please wear clothing suitable for the altitude: windbreaker, hat, gloves, warm blanket, hiking boots and flashlight/headlamp.

In case of bad weather, the concert will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Navalge Theatre in Moena. Free tickets will be distributed at the theatre’s box office from 3:30 p.m., subject to availability.
