An easy walk to Ciampac along the Marmot Trail, to discover the burrows, whistles and other interesting facts about these charming high-mountain dwellers
At Ciampac, the world of marmots unfolds step by step. Along the Marmot Trail, an easy route of around 2 km suitable for all ages, you'll walk in the company of a mountain guide through alpine meadows and high-altitude vistas, with the Colac and Crepa Neigra providing the backdrop. If you look closely, you'll learn to spot the entrances to their burrows, linked by a remarkable network of underground tunnels, and to understand the signals marmots use to communicate. With a bit of luck, you might see them pop up from the grass, stand to attention like little sentinels, let out their high-pitched whistles or scamper awkwardly among the rocks. A simple, fun and educational experience, perfect for introducing children to nature and experiencing the mountains with a fresh pair of eyes.
Meeting point: every Monday and Friday at 9 am at the top station of the Ciampac cable car in Alba di Canazei. Duration: approx. 3 hours. Easy difficulty; pushchairs not permitted, baby carriers allowed. Children aged 3 and over. We advise against bringing dogs, so as not to disturb the marmots in their natural habitat.
Price: free activity organised by Ciampac e Contrin lift company, included in the Panorama Pass, the Dolomiti Supersummer pass or with a valid lift ticket. Should the maximum number of participants for the morning session be reached, registration will open for the second afternoon session (meeting time at 1 pm). This activity is held in Italian only.
Suitable clothing and footwear are required. Packed lunch or lunch at a local mountain hut, at the participants' discretion. The activity will be cancelled in the event of bad weather.
