Guided walk in the Gardeccia valley, at the foot of the Catinaccio, to observe marmots up close in their natural habitat
Can you hear that whistle? It might be a sentinel marmot. In the Gardeccia valley, which can be reached from Ciampedie via a pleasant walk through the woods, these charming high-mountain dwellers find one of their favourite habitats: open meadows, hidden burrows and sweeping views of the Catinaccio peaks. Walking at a leisurely pace with curious eyes, you'll learn to recognise their signs: alarm calls, burrow entrances, quick movements through the grass and those funny moments when they seem to stop and sunbathe. Together with Andrea Vian, a mountain guide, you'll discover the habits, curiosities and little secrets of the Gardeccia marmots, turning a simple high-altitude walk into a nature observation experience.
