Vigo and the whole of Val di Fassa are celebrating Chiara Mazzel, a star of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Paralympic Games, where she won four outstanding medals in Paralympic alpine skiing
Val di Fassa rallies around one of its most remarkable athletes. On Saturday, 21 March at 5:30 p.m., Vigo will celebrate Chiara Mazzel, one of the stars of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Paralympic Games in alpine skiing.
Competing in the Vision Impaired category for visually impaired athletes, the Italian skier won four splendid medals: gold in the women's Super-G and three silvers in the downhill, combined and giant slalom. An exceptional achievement that brings Italy back to the top step of the podium in women's Paralympic alpine skiing after twenty years. Alongside her, and crucial to these successes, were her guides: Nicola Cotti Cottini, with whom she won silver in the downhill and combined, and Fabrizio Casal, her guide in the giant slalom.
The celebrations will involve the whole village. The festivities will begin with a parade along Vigo's main street, from the library to the car park at the entrance to the village. Accompanying the champion will be the valley's ski clubs, the Vigo brass band and local authorities. Chiara will arrive by carriage, welcomed by the warm embrace of her community. At the end of the parade, a giant screen will show highlights from her Paralympic races, allowing everyone to relive the moments that inspired Italy and filled the whole of Val di Fassa with pride.
A celebration not only of medals, but also of the determination, talent and passion of an athlete who has written an important chapter in the history of Italian Paralympic sport.
