Last rays of sunshine in a mountain dairy - Malga Contrin

This experience is dedicated to those who enjoy walking and being surprised by the beauty of nature, when the mountains become more intimate and silent and the Dolomites are dressed in their warmest colours.

Reach a unique place: Malga Contrin, a pearl nestled at the foot of the Marmolada, Gran Vernel and Cima d'Ombretta, among pastures, meadows and fragrant woods. Walk with a guide along the path that crosses the majestic Val Contrin, a valley that showcases all the beauty of the Fassa mountains, far from noise, where birdsong, the murmur of water and the gentle sound of cowbells provide the soundtrack to your journey.

Program

• 2:30 PM: meeting at the Alba di Canazei lift parking lot. Departure for a guided hike through the stunning Val Contrin, a trail immersed in unspoiled nature, among larch forests, flower-filled meadows, and breathtaking views of the Dolomites (about 2 hours 15 minutes, 5 km, 525 m ascent).
• Arrival at Malga Contrin, where Lea, the young and passionate caretaker of this place, will welcome us. She will share the traditions and secrets of alpine life. Here, time still follows a natural rhythm, marked by the alternation of sunlight and night, and the needs of the animals.
• Around 5:00 PM: gathering of the livestock in the pasture. The most authentic moment: accompanying the cows from the pastures to the barn, in full respect of nature and its rhythms.
• Next, a milking demonstration: observe up close the ancient daily practice of the herders. Get to know the cows by name and discover curiosities and anecdotes about each of them.
• 6:00 PM: time for a simple, wholesome snack featuring the genuine flavors of the malga, enjoyed in complete relaxation while admiring the Marmolada peaks.
• 6:45 PM: departure for the return. Together with the guide, walk back to Alba di Canazei along the same route, enjoying the sunset light and the peaceful evening mountain atmosphere. Expected arrival in the valley between 8:30 and 9:00 PM.
