Last rays of sunshine in a mountain dairy - Malga Contrin

This experience is dedicated to those who enjoy walking and being surprised by the beauty of nature, when the mountains become more intimate and silent and the Dolomites are dressed in their warmest colours.

Reach a unique place: Malga Contrin, a pearl nestled at the foot of the Marmolada, Gran Vernel and Cima d'Ombretta, among pastures, meadows and fragrant woods. Walk with a guide along the path that crosses the majestic Val Contrin, a valley that showcases all the beauty of the Fassa mountains, far from noise, where birdsong, the murmur of water and the gentle sound of cowbells provide the soundtrack to your journey.

You will be welcomed at the mountain hut by Lea, who, together with her family, will tell you about life on a high-altitude farm, where love for animals and respect for the mountains are second nature. This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of the mountain hut at one of the quietest times of the day.

What you will do:

• 2.30 pm: meet at the car park of the Alba di Canazei ski lifts. Departure for the guided hike through the beautiful Val Contrin, a trail surrounded by unspoilt nature, larch woods, flower-filled meadows and endless views of the Dolomites (about 2 hours and 15 minutes).
• Arrival at Malga Contrin and meeting with Lea's family. Lea, the young and passionate guardian of this place, will be waiting for us at the malga to tell us about the traditions and secrets of life in the mountains. Here, time still follows a natural rhythm, marked by the alternation of sunlight and night and the needs of the animals.
• After the walk, there will be time for a simple, authentic snack, with the true flavours of the mountain hut to be enjoyed in total relaxation, while your gaze wanders over the peaks of the Marmolada.
• Around 5.45 p.m.: gathering of the cattle from the pasture. The most authentic moment: accompanying the cows from the pastures to the barn, in full respect of nature and its rhythms.
• This is followed by a milking demonstration: you can observe the ancient daily ritual of the dairy farmers up close. Get to know the cows by name and discover interesting facts and anecdotes about each of them.
• 6.45 p.m.: departure for the return journey. Together with the guide, you will return to Alba di Canazei, walking in the light of the setting sun and breathing in the peaceful atmosphere of the mountain evening. Arrival in the valley is scheduled between 8.30 and 9 p.m.
