Last rays of sunshine in a mountain dairy - Malga Couler

Arrive at Malga Couler in time to watch the late afternoon milking. Then enjoy the evening in front of one of the most beautiful views in the Val di Fassa, when the peaks are lit up by the last rays of the sun, and a rustic aperitif with products made from alpine milk. The guided walk back is an opportunity to experience the magic of the “blue hour”, surrounded by silence and scents, curiosities and secrets of the mountain pastures and Dolomite woods.

What you will do:

• Climb up to the mountain hut in the afternoon, meeting at 3.30 p.m., with the Vajolet chairlift from Pera di Fassa and, accompanied by a mountain guide, reach the beautiful Gardeccia basin along the easy Sentiero delle Leggende (Legends' Trail) (about 30 minutes).
• Once you arrive at Malga Couler (4.45 p.m.), you will meet Stefan and his family and, together with the shepherds, you will gather the cows from the pasture and lead them to the barn. Be careful where you step, though!
• Everyone to the barn (5.15 p.m.) for a milking demonstration. You will then learn how to call the cows by name, recognise their breed and tell if they are expecting a calf or have recently given birth.
• There is always something to do in the mountain hut, such as making butter, feeding the calves or cuddling the cute guinea pigs... Are you ready to roll up your sleeves?
• Aperitif at sunset (7 p.m.): what better place for a relaxing aperitif as the sun goes down? All to be enjoyed on the panoramic terrace: mountain cheeses and cold cuts, polenta paired with craft beer and, to finish, Fassa yoghurt and traditional desserts.
• Return to the valley (departure at 8pm) with a guided hike to Pera (approximately 1.5 hours).
