Italy's most modern cableway opens on 19 December: 16 cabins, 2,177 passengers per hour and unprecedented engineering
An extraordinary feat of alpine engineering is taking shape in Val di Fassa: it is the latest generation 3S gondola lift (Drei Seile, three ropes in German) that takes you from Campitello to Col Rodella in just 6 minutes. This ambitious project, designed by Doppelmayr for the Sitc lift company in Canazei, will open to the public on 19 December 2025.
With an investment of around €60 million, a state-of-the-art facility has been built with 16 cabins, each with 30 seats and views of the Fassa Dolomites, capable of transporting up to 2,177 passengers per hour (with a future capacity of 2,812 people per hour). This is a real game changer, doubling the capacity of the old cable car, which was retired last April after 40 years of service (and over 22 million people transported).
There are other three-cable installations in the Alps, but none of them combine the innovation and comfort of the Campitello 3S in a single infrastructure. This achievement marks a new benchmark for high-altitude mobility in the Alps, influencing the flows and satisfaction of guests reaching the ski slopes in winter and the hiking trails in summer, enjoying a comfortable and incredibly scenic journey.
Mobility during the period 4-18 December 2025
Until Thursday 18 December inclusive, free access to the Campitello cable car car park will be guaranteed. The car parks at the Canazei and Alba facilities will remain subject to a charge.
The ski bus service will be running regularly from Thursday 4 December 2025. For lines 1 and 2 towards the upper valley, there will be four ski buses plus one possible backup from Trentino Trasporti (hourly capacity 320 passengers, excluding backup).
There will also be an addition to the service with a dedicated line connecting the Col Rodella car park in Campitello and the Belvedere-Pecol cable car in Canazei. The additional service will operate from Friday 5 to Monday 8 and from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 December via a city bus that will provide a direct return service, without intermediate stops, approximately every 20/25 minutes from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the morning and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the afternoon.
