Val di Fassa returns to the forefront of alpine skiing with the rescheduled Crans-Montana race
Val di Fassa confirms its leading role on the international alpine skiing scene. The La VolatA slope in the San Pellegrino Ski Area will host the rescheduled Women's World Cup downhill race originally planned for Crans-Montana, bringing the total number of World Cup events in the Ladin valley to three.
The official announcement was made in recent days by Peter Gerdol, General Manager of the Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup, via the FIS website. The programme includes timed training runs on Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 March, the make-up downhill on Friday 6 March, a second downhill on Saturday 7 March and the super-G on Sunday 8 March.
This will be the third time Val di Fassa hosts the top international circuit, following previous editions in 2021 and 2024. The event further strengthens a long organisational tradition that includes more than 30 European Cup races, the 2013 Winter Universiade and the 2019 Junior World Championships, made possible thanks to the joint efforts of Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi, Ski Team Fassa, US Monti Pallidi and FassActive.
«We were prepared for this eventuality», explains Cristoforo Debertol, Secretary General of the Organising Committee, «and we are ready to face an additional day of competition, which represents an extraordinary opportunity for visibility for the area». The La VolatA slope, which has undergone safety and accessibility upgrades in view of the upcoming races, is already in excellent condition, with the organisational machine fully operational to welcome athletes and teams from the White Circus.
