The ski season in Val di Fassa is entering its most enchanting phase: spring snow. In this Dolomite valley, skiing continues until 7 April across all ski areas, only Carezza closes slightly earlier, on 6 April, with a grand finale in the San Pellegrino Ski Area, where slopes remain open until 12 April. It is an ideal opportunity to enjoy perfectly groomed pistes, enhanced by mid-March snowfall and bathed in the gentle sunshine typical of this time of year.
Between March and April, days grow longer, temperatures become milder and the mountains come alive with a packed calendar of events combining sport, fine dining and entertainment. Among the most eagerly awaited is the gastronomic festival “A tavola con la Fata delle Dolomiti”, taking place from 14 to 20 March in Moena. For over thirty years, the event has taken food lovers on a refined culinary journey celebrating both tradition and innovation in Ladin cuisine. Five restaurants: Malga Panna, Foresta, Fuciade, Ostaria Tyrol and Malga Roncac present special menus created by Michelin-starred chef Paolo Donei alongside fellow chefs Riccardo Schacher, Martino Rossi, Nicolò Scalet and Christian Tasser. Each menu pays tribute to the region through creative interpretations, including a dish dedicated to “Formai del Mas” from Agritur El Mas (full gourmet menus, from starter to dessert, range from €80 to €110, including wine).
On 20 March, sports enthusiasts turn their attention to the Sellaronda Skimarathon, one of the most spectacular ski mountaineering races in the world. Held at night along the slopes of the Dolomiti Superski area, the race links—on skis—the four passes surrounding the Sella massif: Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena. The route covers 42 kilometres with 2,700 metres of elevation gain, tackled by 550 teams competing in men’s, women’s and mixed categories. By the light of their headlamps, athletes trace a striking luminous trail across the Dolomites, creating a thrilling spectacle for spectators especially at key points such as the passage through the centre of Canazei. This year’s 32nd edition starts and finishes in Corvara.
A distinctly festive atmosphere characterises the weekend from 27 to 29 March with the Moena Vintage Ski Revival, transforming the village and the Alpe Lusia–San Pellegrino ski area into a vibrant stage celebrating the style and music of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Concerts, themed parties, a Vintage Market, style ski competitions and numerous musical events accompany the season’s final runs.
Programme highlights include: the concert by Cristina D’Avena on 27 March (6 pm; free event) in Piaz de Sotegrava; the Vintage Ski Run, a non-competitive style race organised in collaboration with Rossignol, on 28 March at 10 am at Passo San Pellegrino (free registration on site; helmets compulsory); the Fab Four tribute show BeatleStory on 28 March (6 pm) in Piaz de Sotegrava; and a packed schedule of DJ sets on the slopes, including Fabio De Vivo on 29 March at Le Cune (2.45 pm). The festival concludes on Sunday 29 March with the Claudio Cecchetto Deejay Show (1.30 pm) at Le Cune, Alpe Lusia, featuring hits such as “Gioca Jouer” and other classics (free concert; Le Cune is also accessible to non-skiers with a return cable car ticket costing €24 per person; ski passes are also valid). Fluorescent outfits, padded suits, oversized goggles and furry après-ski boots are a must—the dress code is strictly vintage.
With spring skiing, major sporting events, culinary experiences and music, Val di Fassa once again confirms itself as one of the most vibrant destinations in the Dolomites, offering memorable experiences right through to the final days of the season, both on and off the slopes.
