Val Di Fassa: A World Cup Success

Val di Fassa: a World Cup success

Three spectacular races, crowned by Italian victories, flawless organisation and strong international visibility for Val di Fassa

The past weekend was truly one to remember for Italian skiing and for Val di Fassa. The three Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup races, held on the La VolatA run in the San Pellegrino Ski Area from to 8 March, proved a success in every respect: sporting highlighted by two downhill victories from Trentino’s Laura Pirovano, a Super-G win by Elena Curtoni and a third place, also in Super-G, by Asja Zenere – as well as organisational.

"We are very satisfied", said Cristoforo Debertol, Director of Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi, which organised the major sporting event together with ApT Val di Fassa, "with the overall outcome of these World Cup races. Everything worked perfectly: from a sporting perspective, thanks to the outstanding performances of the national team athletes, to the weather conditions, with glorious sunshine throughout the weekend, and the invaluable contribution of more than 300 people involved in the event, including the volunteer team. Everyone carried out their role with great dedication".

A clear success for Val di Fassa which, buoyed by these results, is now renewing its bid to become a regular fixture on the Alpine Ski World Cup calendar.  "The feedback", emphasised Fausto Lorenz, President of Grandi Eventi and also of ApT Val di Fassa, "has been more than positive. We received compliments from coaches, teams and athletes for the preparation of the La VolatA course, overseen by race director Mattia Giongo, for the hospitality – including the Ladin Lounge curated by chef Stefano Ghetta – for the awards ceremony and bib draw held in the square in Moena, as well as for the many other aspects we, of course, managed. Taking into account the events already hosted in 2021 and 2024 (the latter unfortunately cancelled due to excessive snowfall), we aim to become a permanent fixture on the World Cup calendar. It should also be noted that for twenty years Val di Fassa has been home to the Italian men’s and women’s national alpine ski teams thanks to the Piste Azzurre project, developed in collaboration with FISI and Dolomiti Superski".

The three races also attracted an excellent turnout: around 8,000 people in total – including spectators in the stands and those in the free viewing area – watched Pirovano and her teammates compete live. The World Cup races also generated strong interest among fans and tourists well beyond the valley’s borders, as demonstrated by digital data recorded in recent days.

The website www.skiworldcup.fassa.comExternal link saw a +350% increase in unique visitors, with 40% coming from abroad, particularly from Germany. Even more significant was the performance of the portal www.fassa.comExternal link, which recorded nearly a +400% increase in visits to the page dedicated to the World Cup in the valley, with a sharp rise in users from German-speaking countries, who mainly searched for information about the Val di Fassa ski areas, with a particular focus on the La VolatA run, which attracted considerable interest. The Ladin Tourist Board’s social media results were also noteworthy: on 8 March alone, during the Super-G, the Val di Fassa Ski World Cup Instagram page reached 3 million views, while the Facebook page recorded 1 million views. On the same day, the Val di Fassa Instagram page also achieved 1 million views.
