A footpath, a green space, a place close to your heart: you can choose where and when to make your contribution. From 27 September to 11 October, the Val di Fassa CleanUP Days return for two weeks of action to care for the valley. The initiative, aimed at both residents and visitors, is being organised for the second consecutive year by the Val di Fassa Tourist Board, in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Patron e.V.
The latest edition of the Val di Fassa CleanUP Days gets underway on Sunday 27 September at 2.30 pm in Canazei, with a guided litter-picking walk along the trails. Led by a mid-mountain guide, the walk will combine environmental action with the discovery of the valley, with information, fascinating facts and stories about the area along the way.
Taking part over the following days is easy. At the CleanUP Stations at the Fassa tourist offices, participants can collect a free CleanUP Kit, containing a pair of stainless-steel tongs and a reusable, washable bag. Once they have collected small, non-hazardous items of litter that can be easily disposed of, participants can record their contribution on the CleanUP Map, which shows the areas cleaned and the routes chosen by participants.
The waste collected must be sorted and disposed of in the appropriate bins or at municipal recycling centres, in accordance with local regulations and the instructions provided on the map. The CleanUP Kit can also be kept and used after the event, allowing participants to continue caring for the environment.
Participation is free and open to adults, including valley residents and visitors, as well as organisations, schools, businesses and service providers. Minors may take part under the responsibility and direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian. The activity is carried out independently: participants choose when and where to take part and do so at their own responsibility, including when accompanying young people.
Participants are advised to choose only safe and accessible areas and to wear sturdy footwear, gloves and clothing appropriate to the weather conditions. Bulky or hazardous waste, as well as items requiring specialist equipment or expertise, must not be collected and should instead be reported to the local authorities. Collected items must never be left unattended or deposited in unauthorised locations.
The commitment to the Val di Fassa CleanUP Days will also be put into practice by staff from the Val di Fassa Tourist Board, who, from 28 September to 9 October, will organise themselves into small groups each day to take an active part in collecting litter. This practical commitment is also intended as an invitation to everyone to take care of the local area.
Because the Val di Fassa CleanUP Days do not end when the two-week initiative comes to a close. The aim is to raise awareness and encourage care for the environment and the cleanliness of the valley to become part of everyday life. One small action at a time, everyone can help preserve the beauty of Val di Fassa.
