Climbs of Giro d’Italia - Costalunga/Carezza Pass

Bici da corsa

Once left Vigo and its picturesque hamlets behind (Larcioné, Valongia, Tamion), face the ascent to Costalunga Pass, with a constant gradient. Don’t be distracted by the panoramic view on the whole valley. It’s recommended to continue the tour ‘till the renowned lake of Carezza.

Starting ...
from Vigo and following the state road 241 (S.S. 241), in a little more than 9 km (6,5 km of whom are without flat stretches), reach Costalunga/Carezza Pass. The elevation gain is concentrated in the first 6 km, with average gradients of 6,7%. Once left the village and passed the bridge over Rio Vael, the ascent begins, with stretches of 8-9% and several sharp bends, ‘till the junction to the suggestive hamlet of Tamion. From the sixth kilometre on, the road begins to flatten and becomes almost flat by the resort of Chiusel, where the view opens up towards Monzoni group, San Pellegrino valley, Latemar and Rosengarten.

Return along the same route or possibility to continue towards Nigra Pass or Nova Levante, following Giro delle Dolomiti’s itineraries.

Author's advice: From the end of April to the end of June and from September to end October. During the months of July and August, traffic is particularly severe on Dolomites passes (cars, motorcycles, buses). Refreshment points at the arrival point.

E-bike Bosch Power Station by the valley station of Paolina chairlift.
