Stage 1 Dolomiti Trek King Short Experience Viel Dal Pan

Stage 1 Dolomiti Trek King Short Experience - Viel dal Pan

Trekking

A short version of the Dolomiti Trek King, sleeping in mountain refuge and walking for four days on high altitude trails into the heart of the Dolomites. The first stage will take you from Canazei to Fedaia Pass, with climb to Sass Pordoi.

From Canazei by lifts you will reach "Col ...
dei Rossi". From here walk downhill to the Belvedere Refuge and then take the short-cut to the right to the Fredarola Refuge. Before going on "Viel dal Pan" we suggest to walk to the Pordoi Pass and then take a trip in the cableway to Sass Pordoi - the Terrace of the Dolomites - is well worth your while, as it offers a complete 360° view of all the main Dolomites peaks. After returning to the Pordoi Pass by cableway, follow path no. 601 in order to reach the Fredarola Refuge. This section of the itinerary is called "Viel del Pan", as it once was the preferred route for ambulant traders from the Val di Fassa to the Livinallongo Valley. You will come to the Viel dal Pan Refuge. Keep going and when you notice a saddle up to the left you will probably want to go there to enjoy the view of the Livinallongo valley and the Tofane mountains. When you come to a fork, you will first go down a long diagonal and then the path winds down steeply to the main road and the Marmolada "E. Castiglioni" Refuge. Long alternative: at the crossroads, maintain the altitude without descending, heading towards the Gorza Refuge, from where, aided in some sections by a wire rope, you tackle the short descent. We take path no. 680 to Padon Pass. From the refuge, go back along the same path until you take path no. 698 on the left, which leads to Fedaia Pass.

Author's advice: Organised 4-day high altitude trekking, from refuge to refuge, to discover the most beautiful peaks of the Fassa Dolomites on foot.

Number of mountain lifts to take: 2+1 (cabin lift Canazei-Pecol + cabin lift Pecol-Col dei Rossi + eventual cable car Sass Pordoi).

The tour counts 4 stages on well-indicated CAI-SAT paths. From any point, it is possible to descend to the valley and, thanks to the shuttle service, the mountain lifts or the public means, easily get back to the departure.
