The Rifugio Passo Principe - Grasleitenpasshütte - in Rosengarten, sheltered by a rock and at the base of the highest peak of the Catinaccio, is a crossroads of paths straddling the Trentino and South Tyrol.
On Catinaccio at an altitude of 2600 m, the Rifugio Passo Principe has been the home of Sergio Rosi, his son Daniele, both mountain guides, and Valentina Robol since 2008.
Sergio in 2008 crowned a dream. He bought the Refuge from Francesco Kofler who had built it in 2006 in the valley and then took it piece by piece. A structure so desired that Sergio, together with Daniele, has expanded and perfected, cutting by hand and assembling every piece of wood in sight.
A crowning achievement and a choice of life that makes the refuge accessible both in summer and in winter, a true refuge for every visitor and guest. Here, where in winter the water does not come down from the tap, where in every season the food is brought by helicopter and the waste almost daily needs to be transported by hand along the path with a three-hour walk to get there and back, Valentina, who arrived as a tourist, also chose to stop after meeting Daniele.
The view over the entire Catinaccio group is pristine. In summer, a stop on the terrace is a guaranteed reward.
