From the rocks of the Ladin Dolomites to the meadows of Alpe di Siusi, this refuge is on the border between two worlds: it was built in the thirties on a pass (Giogo di Fassa, in Ladin Jouf de Fascia) dividing the provinces of Trento and Bolzano. A location that has also influenced the food. If you have come from Passo Sella on the Sassolungo and Sasso Piatto Tour, you are at the halfway point, but ... make a little effort anyway to walk up to the meadows above the refuge (to the south) and take in a spectacular view of the Catinaccio. Open in summer (although in winter many ski mountaineers come here), with a few outdoor games for children, you may occasionally find yourself having lunch accompanied by local (live!) music. Open From 20 June to mid-October Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut. Walks The refuge is on the Sassolungo and Sassopiatto Tour (5 hours, difficulty E). From here, you can get to Rigugio Sandro Pertini (50 minutes, difficulty E), Rifugio Friedrich August (1 ½ hours, difficulty E) and the refuges on Passo Sella (2 hours, difficulty E). On the northern side of Sassolungo is Rifugio Vicenza (1 ½ hours, difficulty EE). You can also get to Rifugio Tires in 2 ¼ hours. Experienced hikers can make the ascent of Sassopiatto (2 hours; EE). The valley at Campitello di Fassa can be accessed by walking down Val Duron and past Rifugio Micheluzzi (1 hour, difficulty E.
