Alessandro Castriota Scanderbeg Panorama Music

Alessandro Castriota Scanderberg

For the Val di Fassa Panorama Music festival, Alessandro Castriota Scanderbeg in "Arbëresh songs, the ancient language of the Albanians of Italy"

A narrative concert that weaves together traditional music, historical storytelling and a sense of identity, taking the audience on a journey through the cultural heritage of Calabria’s Arbëresh communities. The performance features thirteen to fifteen traditional Arbëresh songs, passed down orally for centuries and preserved to this day as a living testament to the culture of the Italian-Albanian communities that settled in southern Italy (particularly in the province of Cosenza) from the second half of the 15th century onwards.

The pieces, naturally arranged in a contemporary style whilst remaining faithful to the original musical spirit, represent different aspects of Arbëresh culture: love songs, work songs, ritual songs, compositions linked to religious and folk festivals, as well as musical testimonies that preserve the memory of the historical events of the Albanian people and their diaspora.

Alessandro Castriota Scanderbeg – vocals and narration. A singer and performer with an extremely versatile artistic background. Having graduated in jazz singing from the conservatoires of Cosenza and Frosinone, he moves effortlessly between different musical genres, from jazz to opera, from ethnic music to singer-songwriter music, as well as being an experienced theatre actor. Antonio Macaretti – accordion. An accordionist of proven experience, having graduated in composition and accordion from the conservatoires of Bologna and Parma respectively, he combines his knowledge of the traditional repertoire with a background that also includes contemporary classical music – aspects that lend the performance a rich tonal depth and great narrative power.

The culture and music association "La Grenz", a long-standing partner of the Dolomiti Ski Jazz and Val di Fassa Panorama Music festivals, opens the doors of its club for a series of unmissable concerts.
