A guided excursion to explore the Geo Park at Col Margherita, offering an insight into the history and geology of the Dolomites, featuring volcanoes, glaciers, islands, seabeds and fossil remains
The Col Margherita Geo Park, created in collaboration with the Natural History Museum of Trento, is a fascinating theme park at an altitude of 2,500 metres that takes visitors of all ages on a journey to the origins of the Earth, exploring the geological history of the Dolomites. An engaging journey that invites visitors to explore ancient seabeds and take a leap back 290 million years, to a time when violent volcanic eruptions shaped the landscape, giving rise to the characteristic reddish-brown rocks of the Col Margherita porphyry platform. Reaching the summit by cable car from Passo San Pellegrino, you'll be treated to an extraordinary 360° panorama of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Meeting point: 10:00 am in front of the small church of Sant'Antonio at San Pellegrino Pass. Short transfer on foot to the cable car departure station. Return at approximately 1:00 pm. Difficulty: easy.
Price: 27 € adults, 13 € children from 4 to 12 years. Participants are responsible for the cost of the cable car. Panorama Pass and Dolomiti Supersummer for the lifts and Val di Fassa Guest Card for public transport from Moena to San Pellegrino Pass. Activity with limited number of participants. Sportswear and trekking shoes are required. It is advisable to bring a rucksack with a wind/rainproof jacket and water bottle. Packed lunch or lunch at the refuge.
