The Shepherd’s Wake-up Call

At 2,200 metres, in the hamlet of Le Cune – which you can easily reach by cable car – discover the beauty of watching the Dolomites take on the colours of the ‘Enrosadira’, the Ladin word for the phenomenon whereby, at dawn and dusk, the sun’s rays bathe the Dolomite rock in shades ranging from pink to red. But that’s not all: once you’ve watched the sunrise, follow the path through the quiet pastures alongside a farmer and a mountain guide, who will explain the characteristics of the area and share lots of interesting facts about livestock, plants and the mountains. At the end of the walk, a delicious breakfast featuring authentic local produce awaits you at the Valbona Mountain Hut (1,820 m), giving you the energy you need to return to the valley by cable car and secure a front-row seat to watch the procession of cows, goats, sheep, donkeys and horses returning from the mountain pastures.

Programme

• 6:20 am – punctual arrival at the cable car valley station in Ronchi, a few kilometres from Moena on the road to Passo San Pellegrino
• 6:30 am – ascent by cable car to Le Cune with the group. Look around: at this hour, if the weather is clear, the peaks are lit up by the natural spectacle of the Enrosadira
• approx. 7:15 am – easy walk towards Valbona with the shepherd and the mountain guide
• approx. 8:15 am – breakfast at Chalet Valbona: taste local sweet and savoury products, including the famous Puzzone di Moena DOP cheese
• 9:30 am – return to the village to watch the livestock parade as cows, goats, sheep, donkeys and horses come down from the pastures
