The itinerary connects Canazei to Passo Sella and then to Col Rodella, crossing the vast pastures of Val Salei. Along the climb you encounter the Basalt Waterfalls, a particular hexagonal rock formation. With a short detour, from the Mortic trail you reach the basalt waterfalls of Ruf de Antermont, a site of considerable natural value, protected by the Autonomous Province of Trento, dating back to the Middle Triassic. Although basalt is a common volcanic rock in Val di Fassa, a columnar outcrop is a true rarity. The crystal-clear water flows over a basalt rock step characterized by a particular fissuring. The contraction of the lava flows during cooling formed a polygonal mesh that gave rise to elongated prisms. However, those of Pian Frataces appear unusually: the columns, in addition to being vertical, are also arranged horizontally or transversely. In several places, on the walls you can see the intrusion of a globular structure, derived from the accumulation of exploded lava pillows. For more information: http://www.dolomitifassa.it/antermont.html To avoid the climb, the itinerary can be tackled in the opposite direction, starting from Campitello and reaching Col Rodella by cable car. Data: 2 hours 45 minutes; descent elevation 932 m. Other open lifts: Rodella - Des Alpes chairlift; Pradel - Salei cable car (Pian de Frataces).
