Puzzone PDO Festival in Moena

In honour of one of Italy’s finest and most celebrated cheeses, the eagerly awaited festival returns with a packed programme of tastings, food tours, show cooking, aperitifs, open-air lunches and dinners, children’s workshops and, of course, the cattle parades returning from the pastures returns

A weekend of flavours for true cheese lovers and gourmets of all ages! From 19 to 21 September, the Puzzone di Moena PDO Festival is back - an event dedicated to the King of Trentino cheeses. This celebration showcases one of the PDO cheeses featured in the European "LoST" project, created to protect and promote small-scale local dairy production. But the festival is not just about Moena, the home of "Spretz Tzaorì" (as the people of Moena originally called Puzzone). It also extends to Soraga and Predazzo, turning the Fassa and Fiemme valleys into a spectacular stage of tradition and flavour. Three immersive days in the heart of the mountains, featuring guided excursions to local dairies, visits to stables during milking, exclusive tastings, masterclasses and star-studded cooking shows. Aperitifs, lunches, snacks and themed dinners will delight food lovers, while children’s workshops and live dairy demonstrations add an interactive touch to the experience. But the true highlight is the "Desmontegada", taking place on Saturday 20 September in Soraga and Sunday 21 in Moena: an authentic alpine tradition where cows, sheep, horses and goats, festively adorned with flowers and bells, return from the high pastures. Accompanied by shepherds, farmers, marching bands and folk groups, they parade through the streets in a colourful, musical celebration of customs proudly passed down through generations.

Programme Puzzone Festival 2025 - Friday 19 September:

  • from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Moena in the "Piaz de Ramon" square - Il Boschetto degli Gnomi (The Gnome Grove). Laura, owner of the educational farm in "Ronchi", on the road to the San Pellegrino Pass, awaits you in the square with her curious and affectionate animals. Between cuddles, encounters with four-legged friends and little curiosities, you will discover the authentic microcosm of a mountain farm
  • at 5 p.m. in Moena in the "Piaz de Sotegrava" square - Mozzarella takes shape. Andrea will guide you through a live demonstration of mozzarella spinning: an opportunity to discover the secrets of this process and see how one of the most loved delicacies is made from milk
  • from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Moena in the "Piaz de Ramon" and "Piaz de Sotegrava" squares - Happycheese Puzzone Style. Aperitif with locally sourced ingredients paired with Trentino wines, local craft beers and live music. In the "Piaz de Ramon" square, the initiative is organised by Agritur El Mas (farmhouse) and the Predazzo and Moena dairy cooperative, while in the "Piaz de Sotegrava" square it is organised by "Carpano" artisan delicatessen
  • from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Moena in the "Piaz de Ramon" and "Piaz de Sotegrava" squares - Local producers' market. N'Outa, Rampeèr, Carpano, Felicetti Speck, Caseificio Sociale di Predazzo e Moena, Agritur El Mas and Crighel Bräu brewery take you on a food and wine tour to discover artisan flavours, food and wine to taste or take home as a souvenir of Val di Fassa
  • from 6.15 p.m. at Col Margherita at the InAlto restaurant (San Pellegrino Pass) - Enrosadira. A dinner at 2,500 metres, created by Michelin-starred chef Alfio Ghezzi, pays homage to the king of PDO cheeses with a spectacular view of the Dolomites at sunset. Book your high-altitude dinner now!
  • from 7.30 p.m. in Vigo di Fassa at the Osteria da Carpano - An evening for dinner with Puzzone di Moena PDO. A themed culinary journey proposed by the chefs of the Osteria. Reservations required: secure your place at the table!

Programme Puzzone Festival 2025 - Saturday 20 September:

  • from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Puzzone di Moena PDO trekking. A whole day, guided by an expert local guide, discovering Puzzone di Moena PDO, with three delicious stops, from Moena to Soraga. 1. "wow" breakfast at Agritur El Mas (farmhouse); 2. aperitif lunch in Soraga with "Mèlga de Fascia" dairy, featuring Trentino cheeses, wines and apple juice; 3. snack in the square in Moena with fresh yoghurt from "Carpano" gastronomy.   • from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Moena in the "Piaz de Ramon" square - Il Boschetto degli Gnomi (The Gnome Grove). While waiting for the parade along the main street (12.30 p.m.), market of typical products and handicrafts, farmer's aperitif, cheese-making with the "Mèlga de Fascia" dairy cheesemaker, typical lunch (from 12 p.m.), musical entertainment and performance by folk groups

  • at 9 a.m. in Moena in the "Piaz de Sotegrava" square - From milk to cheese. Practical demonstration of the stages of milk processing with Giacomo, a young cheesemaker from the Predazzo and Moena dairy cooperative: an opportunity to see all the steps and the skill of an ancient art live
  • from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Moena in the "Piaz de Ramon" square - Il Boschetto degli Gnomi (The Gnome Grove). Initiative organised in collaboration with the Puzzone di Moena PDO protection consortium and the dairies that produce it
  • from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the "Piaz de Ramon" square - Puzzone Kids Special. There will be a special area for children with creative workshops, face painting and soap bubbles. Participation is free and open to all
  • at 11:45 a.m. in Moena, along the streets of the town centre - "La Desmontegada". The grand return of cows and other animals which, after spending the summer in the mountain pastures with their farmers, parade through the streets of the village dressed in their finery, accompanied by the village band, folk groups and various local associations
  • from 12noon in Moena in the "Piaz de Sotegrava" square - La piazza del gusto (The square of taste). Ladin dishes and recipes featuring Puzzone di Moena PDO cheese prepared by the Moena/Passo San Pellegrino Hoteliers' Association and paired with Trentino wines from the Gottardi winery
  • all day in Moena in the "Piaz de Ramon" square - "Casèl Village". An area entirely dedicated to the king of Trentino cheeses, the star of the festival, with tastings and traditional dishes, games and workshops for children organised by the Predazzo and Moena dairy cooperative
  • all day in Moena in the "Piaz de Ramon" square - El Mas in the square. Delicious treats and street food made with locally sourced ingredients reinterpreted by the creative flair of chef Stefano Croce of Agritur El Mas, Michelin green star
  • for dinner - Closing of the Sapori d'Autunno food festival at the restaurants Foresta, Fuciade, Malga Panna, Ostaria Tyrol and Malga Roncac. Book your table!

Where to park: "Navalge", sports field area (free; about a 15-minute walk from the centre).

On Friday and Saturday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., you can purchase tickets for Sunday lunch at the dedicated stand in the square. Take advantage of advance sales to avoid queues and enjoy the festival to the fullest.
